President William J. Katip

An energetic, participatory leader and effective motivator, Dr. William J. Katip became the President of Grace College in May 2013. With experience in nearly all areas of college administration, Katip’s career demonstrates intricate knowledge and know-how throughout the realm of higher education.

Dr. William J. (Bill) Katip is president of Grace College & Seminary in Winona Lake, Ind. Katip holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University, an M.S. in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University and a B.A. in Psychology and Bible from Grace College. Katip met Debbie Cahill during his undergraduate studies at Grace and they were married in 1974. Bill and Debbie Katip are parents of four adult children.

Bill Katip began his career as an instructor and counselor at Grace College, later transitioning to administration. He went on to serve as Associate Dean of Students at Grace and then Dean of Students at Cornerstone University. From there, he was Academic Dean at Corban University and then Vice President for Enrollment Management at Geneva College. Katip served for 10 years as the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Robert Morris University of Pittsburgh before moving back to Indiana in 2007 to become Provost at Grace College. In May of 2013, Katip became the sixth president of Grace College & Seminary.

Dr. Katip is an energetic, participatory leader and effective motivator. With experience in nearly all areas of college administration, Katip’s career demonstrates intricate knowledge and know-how throughout the realm of higher education. Katip is a change agent. His four decades of work in student retention research and practice – including a doctoral dissertation – combined with his background in innovative academic program development, oversight and review, has led to strong results as president of Grace College. Since his induction, undergraduate four-year graduation rates have climbed as high as 67% with more than one-quarter of Grace students graduating in three years. Enrollment has increased significantly during Katip’s administration, with a record 2,333 students in the 2016-17 school year.

During Katip’s time at Grace, three new dorms have been built to accommodate the growing student population; a new soccer stadium, softball field and a first-ever track and field complex at Grace College have been constructed; and the new Dr. Dane A. Miller Science Complex opened in fall of 2018. Since 2017, new academic programs in agribusiness, digital marketing and worship arts have been developed. With a focus on STEM, new bachelor’s degree programs in mechanical engineering, chemistry and nursing (in partnership with Bethel College) have begun. A ministry training center in Akron, Ohio, opened in 2017, and Grace Seminary launched Deploy in 2018 – a modern, competency-based theological education model.

Katip’s passion for affordability – making high-quality, Christian higher education available to as many students as possible – fueled the development of Measure of Grace. This initiative includes a three-year bachelor’s degree program in more than 70 Grace majors, as well as a blended four-year bachelor’s and master’s degree program. Tuition is never higher than a student’s first year of enrollment.

Bill Katip serves on the Board of Directors of Independent Colleges of Indiana, Indiana Right to Life, OrthoWorx, Kosciusko Community Foundation and Kosciusko County Economic Development Council. He is a proud and active member of the Morning Optimist Club and the advisory board of North Central Indiana Right to Life.
