Explore Career Paths
Even if you’re not sure how to choose a college major, you likely have a career or two you’re interested in. Do they naturally lend themselves to any majors?
As you consider majors to study in college, it’s important to learn the difference between hard skills and soft skills. Most majors offer a blend of both, but it helps to understand what you’re looking for in a post-undergraduate career.
Some majors, typically hard-skill-heavy ones, prepare you for a specific vocation. For example, actuarial science majors typically expect to become actuaries, nursing majors to work in the healthcare field, and education majors to pursue licensure and teach.
Other majors, such as English, business administration, and general science, don’t necessarily lead to one setting. These programs will equip you to enter a variety of diverse fields. Remember that either way, professionals use their degrees in unexpected ways! A major isn’t a life sentence; it’s an opportunity to branch out.
