History Major

  • 3 or 4 Year Degree
  • On-Campus

As a history major at Grace College, you’ll be equipped to engage in historical research and inquiry, sharpening your critical thinking, communication skills, empathy, and cultural understanding.

At Grace, we believe that studying history has a special significance for us as Christians. A large part of how God has chosen to reveal Himself is historical narrative, and our study of past civilizations is a study of image-bearing humanity. Engaging in history calls us to love our neighbors, even those separated by time, and to set aside our presuppositions in humility.

As a history major, you can expect multifaceted core courses and elective classes full of lectures, discussions, and hands-on projects and activities. To start, you’ll take foundational courses that cover a broad scope in world history, geography, and American history and government. Whether you’re fascinated by medieval studies, the Wild West, Latin American studies, or American religion, the program offers you the freedom to choose courses that match your unique interests.

Outside of the classroom, you’ll benefit from our very own on-campus Winona History Center, which offers exhibits on Winona Lake’s historical heritage, from local Gospel musicians and evangelists to historical people groups. History majors have also participated in events such as the Lyceum Lecture and cultural heritage panels.

We understand that there’s no learning like diving right into a field, so you’ll undergo an internship as part of the history major. Students have interned at the Winona History Center, the Morgan Library archives, and local museums and historical societies.

When you graduate with a history degree, you’ll be equipped for post-undergraduate education or work. History graduates often choose to work in research, but students have served in every kind of position in fields such as ministry, business, and higher education.

Voices of Grace

“There’s so much to learn once you are on site. Everything you learn in classes like ‘Artifacts and Exhibits’ and ‘Ancient History' is brought to life. There’s something special about witnessing biblical archaeology. It’s stirring. It’s powerful.”
