10 Fun Things to do on a College Campus

Between homework and classes, college life can feel like it’s all about studying. But at Grace College, we value long-lasting friendships and time away from assignments. That is why we facilitate many fun college events that are not related to schoolwork.  If you need inspiration for your next get-together with a friend at Grace, try out some of these fun things to do on a college campus that will give you a break from the day-to-day study grind. 

Grab Some Coffee

In search of a fresh coffee, a muffin, or a fruit smoothie? Jazzman’s is the place to go! As you sip your drink and eat your snack, you’ll have the opportunity to sit by the fireplace, socialize, and study. This on-campus coffee shop, always buzzing with people, is a great place to get a caffeine kick that will get you going after an all-nighter. Of all the fun things to do on a college campus, this one is a staple for most students we know.

Get a Bite to Eat

Stop by the newly renovated Alpha Dining Hall on one of our many “nug days,” and pair your chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, and waffle fries with a slushie from the new slushie machine. You can relax in one of the booths to catch up with friends or plug your computer into a charging station so both you and your computer can fuel up for your next class. Want a meal you can take on the go? Head over to Westminster Hall to try a sandwich from SubConnection or a burrito from Westy Grille. When you’re tired of making ramen in your microwave, our dining options are waiting to give you a taste of home. 

Hang Out

What do you do when you’ve run out of places to study, do homework, or relax? Put up a hammock! Nothing beats a clear day with a soft breeze and some personal time swaying back and forth in a hammock. Hang solo between two trees, or try one of our hammock stands that can fit up to three hammocks! While you’re out there relaxing, be careful not to doze off and miss your next class!

Go for a Stroll

Need to stretch your legs after a long day of classes? Take a walk around our beautiful campus, or better yet, stroll along the greenway trail from Beta Hall to Miller Field. This 15-minute walk is the perfect distraction on a busy day. As the path winds through the trees, you’ll feel like you’ve left Indiana. Walking or jogging is the perfect way to keep you energized for the rest of the day. 

Compete on the Field, Court, or Lake

At Grace, we have a variety of sports for a variety of interests. The Grace Intramural Program hosts many fun college events throughout the semester that are perfect for sports enthusiasts, and there are also club sports available like bass fishing, ultimate frisbee, shooting sports, and rugby. Head out to Beta Field and play volleyball with your friends between classes or grab your discs and practice putting on the disc golf course on campus.

Attend a Performance or Sporting Event 

Prefer to stay off the field and sit in the audience? Check out the schedule for sporting events on campus to cheer on your fellow Lancers and take part in Red Zone themes. Not a fan of sports? You can also catch performances by Grace’s improv comedy group Back in Five. Prepare for a laugh as you watch your classmates perform skits on the spot based on suggestions from the audience. Back in Five is a must-see at Grace College. On stage or on the field, your classmates need your support! Join a Club (or start your own!)

Grace has many clubs and organizations for students with a variety of interests and skills. Become an officer for Student Senate, give back to the community with SERVE, celebrate diversity with CDI, or worship God with the chapel band. None of these catch your interest? You can be the leader of your own club by contacting Student Senate. If you have an interest that is not represented, chances are someone else on campus shares it with you! 

Participate in a Campus Event

Keep up with the weekly Lowdown emails to hear about fun college events like trivia night, movie on the lawn, bingo night, or other annual events that you won’t want to miss. Whether you go with friends or meet new people along the way, our Student Activities Board plans first-rate events to keep you entertained throughout the week. 

Get Your Game On in the GHAWC

Many of our fun things to do on a college campus are outdoors, but what if the weather isn’t cooperating with your plans? Go over to the Gordon Health and Wellness Center where you can work out in the fitness room, shop in the campus store, or play games with your friends in the fieldhouse. With a ping pong table and plenty of tables and chairs, the lobby area is a great hangout or study spot to spend time between classes or escape the weather when it goes against your plans.

Head Down to Winona Lake 

Okay, we know this isn’t on campus, but only a five-minute walk away, the Village at Winona Lake is a top hangout spot for Grace students to spend time with friends or family. Paint pottery with your friends, grab coffee at Light Rail, or buy matching Belove bracelets for you and your roommate. With so many things to do, the Village is the perfect off-campus spot to spend a day away from the textbooks! 

Although your education is important to us, so is you spending time with people who can bring a smile to your face.
