What Makes Teaching at Grace Special?:

Grace is serious about impacting the lives of students and reaching their hearts and minds. It is a gift to be able to truly teach from a Biblical, faith-based perspective and to work with faculty who are also passionate about teaching with such faith integration.

What prior experience are you bringing into the role?:
At the University of New Hampshire, I began teaching upon achieving my master’s degree. The university values teaching, unlike many R1 schools, which focus almost entirely on research, and provides significant instruction and support to me and other PhD students learning to teach at the college level. I have taught online, in-person, and hybrid courses and have worked with many students of diverse backgrounds, goals, abilities, and demographics. Having taught at a large secular university, I have a profound appreciation for what it means to teach from a Christian perspective at a Christ-centered college and how much it can positively impact students. I also studied under Dr. John D. Mayer, one of the key researchers behind ability-based emotional intelligence and personal intelligence. I have learned so much from him when it comes to personality, intelligence, psychometrics, and research.
What drew you to work at Grace?:

I was drawn to work at Grace College because it is an intrinsically Christian institution that clearly and proudly presents itself as putting Christ first, following the Bible, and empowering students to grow in their faith. I appreciate Grace’s solid theology, friendly and talented faculty, and the efforts to educate students holistically, equipping them with skills for career, skills for life, and spiritual maturity.

What are you most looking forward to about your role?:

I look forward to many different things about being an assistant professor at Grace, but a few highlights are: building rapport and relationships with students, collaborating with faculty on teaching and research, helping students understand concepts and topics they did not understand at first, and teaching from a Christian perspective that helps prepare students to thrive in the world as they continue to serve Jesus.
