Spanish Education Major

  • 150+ Hours Field Experience
  • Teacher Technology Training
  • On-Campus

As a Spanish education major at Grace, you will have the opportunity to make meaningful relationships with students and be equipped to provide quality instruction, engaging lesson plans, and differentiation to meet the specific needs of your students.

Grace College’s School of Education is founded on the ideology of “teacher as a moral practitioner.” We are deeply committed to instilling the principles of character, competence, and service in our future teachers. This comes from Micah 6:8, which states, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Ultimately, we look to Jesus, the greatest teacher, as our guide.

You can expect multifaceted core courses and elective classes full of lectures, discussions, and hands-on projects and activities. To start, you’ll take foundational courses in Spanish language, literature, and culture, building on your proficiency in the Spanish language.

The first half of the Spanish education degree focuses heavily on pedagogy and core educational principles. These classes dive deep into the importance of relationships, student engagement, and classroom environment. Later courses are rich in evidence-based practices for teaching Spanish to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. You’ll complete your program with a semester-long placement student teaching at a local school!

As a Spanish education major, you will also gain real-world experience from the start of the program, including observing in the classroom for 20 hours during your first class. In addition, you’ll immerse yourself in a foreign culture through a semester abroad in either Argentina or Spain. You can complete part of your student teaching in either country if you so choose!

After you earn your bachelor’s degree in Spanish education, you can pursue a teaching license for kindergarten through 12th grade. Ultimately, our desire is for you to love your students well and truly make an impact on their lives as you share your appreciation for language and culture.

Voices of Grace

“The School of Education at Grace College did a great job at making the concept of teaching with service, love, and grace at the center… Grace offered some really meaningful classes that not only gave students the practical tools they needed, but the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ such tools fulfill both educational and heart goals.”
