Biology Major - Medical Sales Concentration

  • On-Campus

At Grace College we offer a comprehensive Biology major with a Medical Sales Degree Concentration, designed to equip students with a strong scientific foundation while preparing them for a career in the fast-growing healthcare industry.

We study biology with the foundation that God lies at the center of everything we hope to understand. As you peer at molecular life, you’ll learn to appreciate the fingerprint of an omniscient God whose “understanding is beyond measure.” (Ps. 147:5)

The Biology program provides students with an in-depth understanding of biological principles, including genetics, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and ecology. With small class sizes and access to experienced faculty, students receive personalized attention and practical training in laboratory settings, ensuring they develop the necessary skills for success in both research and applied science fields.

In addition to core biological coursework, the Medical Sales concentration prepares students for the business side of healthcare by combining scientific knowledge with essential sales and marketing skills. This concentration emphasizes communication, negotiation, and relationship-building techniques, all tailored to the medical field.

Students learn about medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare technology while gaining insight into the regulatory landscape and ethical considerations that affect the industry. Graduates of this concentration are well-equipped to work in medical sales, serving as consultants for healthcare professionals and hospitals, selling advanced medical products and solutions.

The integration of science and business through this unique concentration makes the program at Grace College and Theological Seminary a great fit for students who want to make an impact in the healthcare industry. Whether students are aiming to enter medical sales directly after graduation or pursue further education in healthcare-related fields, they leave with a competitive edge. Additionally, the college’s Christian values and commitment to ethical leadership ensure that graduates are prepared to navigate the challenges of the healthcare industry with integrity and compassion.

What is a biology degree?

A biology student studies what makes up a living organism. Biology programs provide students with an in-depth understanding of biological principles, including genetics, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and ecology. To learn more about biology, read our blog, Health Science Degree vs. Biology Degree.

What is medical sales?

Biology with a medical sales concentration prepares students for the business side of healthcare by combining scientific knowledge with essential sales and marketing skills.

How do you get into medical sales?

If you’re wondering how to get into medical sales, three things you’ll need are a comprehensive education, field connections, and hands-on experience. For more information, read our blog, What to Look for in a Medical Sales Degree

What degree do you need for medical sales?

Most colleges don’t offer specific medical sales degrees at the undergraduate level. Prospective students often pursue another major in a field relevant to medical sales instead of a strictly medical sales degree. These degrees also equip you with knowledge in sales, medical equipment, and industry terminology.

The best colleges with medical sales studies provide a comprehensive education, help you foster connections in the field, and provide a pipeline to get hands-on experience. At Grace, we offer a comprehensive biology major with a medical sales degree concentration, designed to equip students with a strong scientific foundation while preparing them for a career in the fast-growing healthcare industry.

What does a medical sales representative do?

What is a medical sales rep? A representative uses their clinical knowledge alongside their knowledge in sales and negotiation to sell medical devices or products. Responsibilities vary with medical sales jobs, but could include working with hospital staff or surgical teams, demonstrating devices and products, or communicating with current and potential customers.

Is medical sales a good career?

Careers in medical sales are in high demand as the medical device market exceeded $640.45 billion in 2024. This revenue draws prospective workers towards the field.

Potential careers for a medical sales degree or concentration include sales representative, orthopedic sales, or medical equipment sales. Some Grace graduates work for Zimmer Biomet, located near Grace College in the Orthopedic Capital of the World® of Warsaw, Indiana.

What skills do you need to succeed in medical sales?

Negotiation and excellent communication are important skills to have in medical sales. For example, medical representatives connect with both current and potential customers to ensure product satisfaction, a consistent supply of medical products, and additional sales. A medical sales degree is also a good fit for those who are strategic or detail-oriented.
