Medical Imaging Major – MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

The Medical Imaging Major at Grace College is in partnership with John Patrick University of Health and Applied Sciences in South Bend, Ind.

The MRI specialization within the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging is designed to prepare students for impactful careers in Magnetic Resonance Imaging—a vital and expanding field in modern healthcare. The program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience necessary to become competent and compassionate MRI technologists, capable of serving in a variety of healthcare settings.

In our medical imaging program, we recognize that Christian ethics play a significant role in the well-being of healthcare patients. Respect for life and individual dignity are central Christian ethical values contributing to holistic care.

As a medical imaging major, you’ll be taught by professionals in the field. Expect courses full of discussion, case scenarios, and new technologies. You’ll learn not only how and when to use technologies like a transducer but also the “why” that lies behind them.

In addition to foundational biology, physics, and math courses, you’ll complete the medical imaging core. This includes courses in areas such as imaging and sectional anatomy, radiation biology and protection, and pharmacology.

Your concentration will determine your specialized courses. You may choose from a concentration in CT, MRI, nuclear medicine, or sonography.

You’ll also complete at least one clinical experience as a medical imaging major. Grace College and John Patrick University have relationships with hospital systems, most within one hour of Grace’s campus. There are additional clinical locations in California, New York, and Florida.

When you graduate, you’ll be equipped with the professional skills and experience to work as a medical imaging technologist in MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, or sonography.

Graduates of the MRI specialization will be well-prepared to pursue careers in hospitals, outpatient imaging centers, and specialized clinics, or to continue their education in related healthcare fields.

If you are looking for a top-tier MRI program in the Midwest that combines technical training with a purpose-driven education, consider Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana. This major is ideal for students who are committed to making a difference through advanced imaging and compassionate patient care.

Professional Licensing

Professional registry and state licensure requirements vary in the different specialties within the medical imaging program. Where required to practice, the additional cost of the licensing process will be incurred by the student after they qualify to proceed through the licensing process; the current cost to be found through the licensing agency’s website. For state-specific regulations, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) provides the most up-to-date information, including requirements for each state: ASRT Licensure Resources. You should also confirm current requirements by checking directly with the health department or licensing board of the state in which you plan to practice.

Whether required to practice or not, graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination. John Patrick University of Health and Applied Sciences (JPU) is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and is recognized by the ARRT.

Voices of Grace

“Learning the sciences from a Christian perspective is invaluable. Grace's sciences shine as a beautiful light in the otherwise atheistic world of science. I appreciate the brilliant, godly, and caring faculty who set aside countless hours to help their students inside and outside of the classroom.”
