Grace College’s Shooting Sports Club Finishes Strong at National Competition

Grace College’s Shooting Sports Club took second and third place in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Collegiate Nationals competition this past weekend. The team took second place in bunker (Olympic Style) trap and third place in 5-stand competition. Nearly 250 students from more than 20 colleges and universities throughout the nation competed at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio, October 18-20.

Beginning its fourth year as a club, six students representing the shooting club’s 33 members, placed third or better in their division in two of five disciplines. This was only the second year that Grace has entered the national competition.

“To do so well, competing against teams that have been established for decades and against individual competitors, who have been shooting for many more years than our students, is a wonderful accomplishment,” stated Grace coach Adam Turner. “I could not be more proud of the way that our students represented Grace College.”

Several from Grace accomplished personal bests during the competition, and there were a number of series of 25 targets where none were missed. Notably, Erin Lawhon completed her second 100 targets in American Trap with a score of 98.

The Grace Club shoots twice a month at its sponsor club, KOSKO Shotgun Sports Complex in Warsaw, and participates in shooting competitions throughout the school year.
