Grace College’s 22 Best Moments of 2022 Captured in Photos

2022 was a great year at Grace College – from a presidential transition, to five national championships, two new accreditations, and a record-breaking class! Our photographers have been hard at work capturing it all. Of all the photos they took this year, here are 22 of our favorites.

1. Dr. John Teevan Named Interim President of Grace College 

Nearly five decades since attending Grace as a student, Dr. John Teevan was named Grace’s Interim President. We are incredibly thankful for his faithful leadership from January through June!

2. Students Celebrate Snow Day

When a snow storm swept across the midwest on February 2-4 and caused the cancellation of classes, students didn’t just stay inside. They grabbed their snowboards, sleds, and yes, even Spikeball sets, and made a dash for the great outdoors. 

3. Men’s Basketball Claims Crossroads League Championship

The men’s basketball team brought home the victory when they won the Crossroads League Championship last spring. The team celebrated triumphantly as they claimed their first tournament championship win since 2012. 

4. Students Compete in the Campus-Wide Joust Events

The Joust is a highlight for students across campus every year! Students are divided into four teams to compete in a series of challenges ranging from board games to fear factor eating! Pictured is one of the four teams: “The Gold Diggers.”

5. Class of 2022 Walks Across the Stage for Commencement

Grace celebrated the Class of 2022 at two Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 7. Keynote addresses were given by Professor Mike Yocum and Dr. Tiberius Rata, challenging our graduates to use their Grace education as a launching pad to lead lives of purpose.

6. Men’s Track and Field Claims NCCAA Title

At the NCCAA national championship, the men’s track and field team claimed the NCCAA title, the second in the team’s history. The women’s team was also close to pulling out a win, finishing in second. 

7. Men’s Tennis Secures Back-to-Back NCCAA Championship Titles

The men’s tennis team defended their NCCAA championship title by winning for the second year in a row.

8. Admissions Hosts PreUnion

We welcomed deposited students to Winona Lake in the summer for a fun-filled day of sun, food, boating, beach volleyball and more! It was a great time of connecting with future Lancers and enjoying our beautiful town together.

9. Incoming Students Arrive on Campus for Welcome Weekend

Upperclassmen, staff, and faculty brought all the excitement to welcome new students to campus. This year, we welcomed a record breaking 1,307 undergraduate students thanks to our second largest incoming class of 465. 

10. Students Create “G” for Iconic Class Drone Photo

To celebrate joining the Grace family, the 465 students in the incoming class formed a “G” for their incoming class photo. 

11. New Students Participate in the Hike

This campus-wide scavenger hunt for new students ends in an epic cardboard boat race on the shores of Winona Lake. Students solve clues to get points that can be used for boat-making supplies, and at the end of the day, the boats are paraded down to Winona Lake! 

12. Students Paddleboard at the Annual Lake Day

There’s nothing quite like our campus-wide Lake Day event! Students paddleboarded, kayaked, tubed behind the Grace boat, swam in the lake, and played beach volleyball all while enjoying beautiful Winona Lake. 

13. Grace Department of Engineering Earns ABET Accreditation

Our mechanical engineering degree took a huge step forward when it earned ABET accreditation at the start of the school year. The engineering program boasts a 100% postgraduate placement rate in the engineering industry.

14. Grace Involvement Fair Helps Students Find their Place on Campus 

Students heard from the many clubs and organizations they can be part of at the involvement fair, from fitness classes to music groups, language clubs to outdoor adventures!

15. Alumni and Current Students Enjoy Grace’s Homecoming Tailgate

Dr. Drew Flamm hypes up the Red Zone for the homecoming women’s soccer match against Spring Arbor. 

16. Students Dress to Impress at Homecoming Banquet

Students enjoyed an evening of dressing up, eating good food, and playing Bingo at the Homecoming Banquet. And at the end of the night, they kicked off the high heels and pulled out their best dance moves.

17. Grace Hosts its 62nd Annual Conference on Missions

Nonprofits and missions organizations came to Winona Lake from across the world to talk to Grace students about living a life on mission. From the Taste of the World event where students can try food from other countries to seminars taught by these experts, students can learn about how they might leverage their own vocation – no matter what it is – to be on mission. 

18. Grace Inaugurates Dr. Drew Flamm as the Institution’s Seventh President

On Friday, November 4, the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center was packed to celebrate the inauguration of President Drew Flamm. Individuals shared words of encouragement and exhortation for President Flammn as students, faculty, and community members celebrated his dedication to the school.

19. Men and Women’s Cross Country Teams Sweep the NCCAA Championships 

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams showed up big at the NCCAA tournament!

Three women and six men claimed All-American distinction.

20. Twice as Nice: Women’s Soccer Wins NCCAA National Championship 

The women’s soccer team won the NCCAA national championship for the second year in a row with a 6-0 win over Oakland City in Kissimmee, Florida.

21. School of Education Earns CAEP Accreditation 

The School of Education was granted CAEP accreditation, meeting rigorous, nationally recognized standards at the end of the semester. After a seven-year accreditation process, Grace College is now one of 507 total providers meeting the CAEP standards. 

22. Eleven Community Businesses Sponsor Disc Golf Course Updates

The Grace disc golf course underwent an upgrade at the end of the year thanks to the generous donations of our community partners! Now you can tee off on the new concrete tee pads and reference our signage with drone photage of the course to help make it more user friendly.
