Grace College Shooting Sports Team Takes Top Honors at Hoosier Fall Collegiate Invitational

The Grace Shooting Sports Club (GSSC) at Grace College recently won the team-high overall honors and several other team and individual awards during the Hoosier Fall Collegiate Invitational (HFCI).

The GSSC team also took first place in skeet, sporting clays, 5-stand, and the combined events on Sunday.  Individual top honors went to Matthew Walters for the high score all around covering all events, the high score for Sunday’s events as well as the sporting clays competition.  Jackson Million won the 5-stand event, and Mackenzie Bird had the top female score for Sunday’s events.

The two-day event included each athlete shooting six events at 500 targets.  More than sixty students from nine colleges and universities participated.  Rochester Gun Club hosted the trap shooting events on Saturday, and KOSKO Shotgun Sports Complex, Grace’s home club, hosted the Sunday events.

“In just its second year, it is great to see the rising popularity of the HFCI event,” said Paul Blair, GSSC head coach. “Of course, it is wonderful to see our team perform well, but the comradery building between regional colleges is also exciting to see.”

In its ninth year, the GSSC is a recreational shotgun shooting club that focuses on promoting gun safety, enhancing shooting skills and connecting with the shooting community. The group strives to promote a positive image of shooting sports, provide opportunities for leadership development and enhance community awareness of safe shooting practices.

The GSSC is open to all Grace students and meets twice a month at KOSKO Shotgun Sports Complex, 2391 Fox Farm Road, Warsaw, Ind. Practices include shooting a variety of sporting clays, trap and skeet.  There are currently 63 Grace students on the GSSC roster, and 10 of them participate as part of the competitive team.
