Grace College is pleased to announce its new exhibition, “Impressions of Italy” by Kim M. Reiff, chair of the Grace College Department of Visual, Performing, and Media Arts. The selection on display features photographs, sketchbook surface rubbings and digital and graphite impressions derived from Reiff’s time in Italy. The exhibit is now open and runs through Friday, October 7, at the Mount Memorial Art Gallery, 1 Lancer Way, Winona Lake.
“Through the lens of the camera and the texture on the sketchbook page, Reiff invites the viewer into her breathtaking journey through Italian art museums, cathedrals, ancient forums and marble plazas,” said Dr. Mark Norris, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Grace College. “I encourage you to experience the exhibit for yourself and take in the sites of Italy without leaving Winona Lake!”
Reiff adjusted her digital images through Adobe Photoshop software for color gradations that enhance themed cohesiveness for each represented location. The images were captured in Venice, Florence, Rome, Spannocchia (Tuscan medieval farm), Siena, Pompei and Sorrento, Italy.
“This exhibit is an expression of my passion for capturing textures and patterns as the trace of memory for shared experiences,” said Reiff. “As one views the large-format prints or turns the pages of my sketchbook, fleeting moments become a record for the present.”
Prior to beginning her academic career at Grace College in 2009, Reiff worked in the corporate world in art and design. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Indiana University, her Master of Fine Arts from Azusa Pacific University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Her work has been displayed locally and nationally in juried exhibitions.
