Established in 2003, the Gordon Health and Wellness Center — or as the students here at Grace affectionately call it, the “GHAWC” — offers the Grace community a full range of services to promote wellness, physical fitness, and physical activity. Over this past summer, the Grace health and fitness center saw some major renovations. Let’s take a look around our new and improved student rec center!
The first thing you will see when you enter the GHAWC is the newly-renovated lobby. Here, you can find tables and chairs perfect for studying or hanging out between classes. The lobby is also where you can find the front desk for the fitness center. Make sure you bring your student ID to check in to the gym!
One of the areas that has seen the most improvement since the recent renovations is the Grace College gym. Expanded to 8,800 square feet and housing all new equipment, the GHAWC fitness room has never looked better! It now includes triple the number of racks, a large cable machine, and a wide range of dumbbells. If you are looking to test your endurance, come take advantage of the all-new cardio equipment, with more options than we had before! There is also an expanded turf area for all your stretching, plyometric, and agility needs. These updates have made our health and fitness center the place to be on campus!
Did you know that Grace provides free group fitness classes during the school year in the GHAWC? These classes take place at a variety of times to fit any schedule and meet a range of fitness levels and needs. Some of our classes include Yoga Flow, p90X, and Body Sculpt, and we cannot forget the ever-popular Zumba classes that take place in the evening! Find a complete list of the goings-on at the Grace College health and fitness center on our GHAWC Facebook page!
All of this, and more, takes place in our 2,800 square-foot aerobics room complete with a wood floor and wall-mounted ballet bars.
Our fieldhouse is a 32,000 square-foot enclosed room with all new flooring, ceiling, and walls. It contains three basketball courts, including a brand new college-length wood floor court. The other two courts have been expanded to high school size. There are also several pickleball courts and a new 1/10 mile two-lane track. This area in the Grace health and fitness center serves many purposes for the school and the local Winona Lake and Warsaw community, including intramural sports, pickleball tournaments, a marketplace for Kid’s Market Inc., and much more. Students will have even more access than before to the fieldhouse as it will no longer be closed for athletic practices!
Some might not know about the state-of-the-art indoor putting green we have! This is the perfect space for our golfers to “tee-it-up” on a cold or rainy day when the course is closed. The Grace golf team also has access to our brand new golf simulator. It is located in the old Athletic Performance room space.
If you are looking for the Athletic Performance room previously located in the GHAWC, it moved! The student-athlete training facilities are now located at the Miller Athletic Complex.
The GHAWC is a great resource for Grace students, but they are not the only ones who can use it. God calls us to be generous with what we’ve been given, so we’ve extended an invitation to the Grace health and fitness center to several additional groups in our community:
If you fall into one of these categories, we hope to see you at the GHAWC soon!
