My areas of expertise include literacy education, evidence-based reading instruction, teacher preparation, and connecting research to authentic classroom practice. I am passionate about helping future teachers understand how children learn to read and equipping them with practical, research-based strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. My teaching style is relational, engaging, and hands-on. I want candidates to feel known and supported while being challenged to grow in both competence and confidence.
I love to build meaningful connections with teacher candidates and watch them grow into confident educators. I especially enjoy watching candidates learn how to teach a child to read using evidence-based practices and then seeing the impact of that instruction firsthand. Through their clinical experiences and their work at the Center for Literacy and Learning, our candidates have the opportunity to serve elementary students, build relationships, and help them develop greater confidence as readers. Watching a child begin to believe, “I can read,” while watching a teacher candidate discover, “I can teach,” is one of the most rewarding parts of my work at Grace.
