Diaspora, Ethnic Church Planting, People Groups Research

Summer 2021 Biloxi, Mississippi Supervised a research project focused on the Vietnamese diaspora.

Summer 2021 Clarkston, Georgia Led research team focused on the ethnic business community of Clarkston.

2016 – Ongoing, Central Wisconsin Hmong Research Project Conducting a qualitative project on the Hmong population of Central Wisconsin with particular attention to religious change across the generations.

2014 – 2019 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Conducted immigration and people group research in metro Kuala Lumpur.

2009 – 2014 Louisville, Kentucky
Lead Researcher; Conducted ongoing ethnographic research on immigration for local social service agencies and churches.

2013 New York City
Global Gates; Led a team of students conducting immigration research on the Bengali diaspora. 2012 London, England Researcher Researched immigrant peoples for the International Mission Board. Our goal was to theorize dynamics of power, space, and economics in immigrant dominated neighborhoods and make recommendations for effective church planting strategies.

2009 Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada
Researcher; Developed an ethnography of Inuit culture and Anglo relational dynamics for the North American Mission Board.

2008 Ancawasi, Peru
Researcher; Conducted cultural values research in order to develop an orality-based teaching curriculum for the Highland Quechua.

2005 Sichuan Province, China
Researcher; Pioneered linguistic research with SIL among isolated Kham Tibetan villages in order to identify dialectical boundaries and generate a 400 word base vocabulary.

2004 Sao Paulo, Brazil
Researcher; Pioneered a campus ministry with CRU at the University of Sao Paulo and researched student needs during a faculty strike to provide recommendations for more effective relations between students and staff.
