Kali Aten

Kali Aten on her Senior Art Portfolio Exhibition talks about wanting to create artworks that can be a part of someone else’s story...

Wanting to create artworks that can be a part of someone else’s story and their lives, I tend to use my inspiration to produce printed postcards, stickers, books, and posters. Creating what I see through Graphic Design Illustrations and vector style. Taking inspiration from what’s around me and what I love. Exploring different techniques from digital to traditional art and mediums to create new and exciting things that interest the viewer.

Exploring new design trends, I enjoy adapting to new ways of creating. While still looking at the past for inspiration and guidance, I find a balance between historical and contemporary influences. I want to push the limit beyond current trends while expressing concise messages. My focus includes utilizing software such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I feel that these programs provide structure to my work while still allowing for my own human interaction and imperfections to show through the art.

There is always something new to learn and room for improvement and I want my work to grow along with my knowledge of craft. There is beauty to the imperfections and my goal is to become a better artist with every imperfect creation.
