Holly Kooiker Wins ‘One of Us’ Grand Prize
Holly Kooiker, a senior at NorthPointe Christian High School, was recently selected as the grand prize winner of Grace College’s “One of Us” contest in a drawing on campus. Kooiker was presented with the prize on Feb. 5, when Grace staff members visited her school in Grand Rapids, Mich. to make the surprise announcement.
The “One of Us” contest invited prospective students to get in contact with Grace College, which entered them into both a weekly drawing and the grand prize drawing. Holly entered the contest at the encouragement of her sister, never expecting to win. When Holly was announced the winner, Janice Kooiker, Holly’s mother, said she “couldn’t believe how much she won. It was very generous.” The prize package included an Apple smartwatch, iRocker Paddleboard, Beats Studio wireless headphones, a Land Yacht longboard, a two-night stay at the Chestnut House B&B and gift cards to shops in the Village at Winona. In total, the prize is valued at more than $1,500.
Even before Holly won the “One of Us” contest, she had a connection with Grace. Her older sister, Kendra, is a Grace graduate, and Holly attended every siblings’ weekend during Kendra’s time at Grace. Janice recalled that when they started searching for colleges, Holly simply said, “Mom, we don’t even have to look. I want to go to Grace.” Holly plans to attend Grace this fall and pursue a degree in counseling.
Holly became interested in Grace’s counseling program during her campus visits. As one of few schools to offer an undergraduate degree in counseling, Grace’s program prepares students for graduate work in both counseling and clinical psychology. Counseling is one of more than 70 undergraduate majors offered at Grace.
