Grace College Invites Public to Virtual Black Church History Event

As part of its programming for Black History Month, Grace College welcomes Aaron Moore, pastor of Adult Ministries at Concord Church in Dallas, Texas, for a virtual event, “Conversations on Black Church History.” The informal interview will be hosted by Dr. Jared Burkholder, director of Grace College’s History and Political Science program. The free event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

“This is a timely conversation,” said Burkholder. “Historians such as Jemar Tisby have focused attention on the intersection of race and Christian history recently, as has television programming from PBS. We are very grateful to Pastor Moore for helping us wrestle with issues of race and how we tell the story of the American church and its past,” he said.

Moore holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is passionate about Black church history and regularly conducts seminars on the intersection of Black history and the American church.

The event is sponsored by the Grace College History and Political Science program, Department of Humanities, and Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The interview with Moore is part of a larger series of Black History Month events that have welcomed renowned author Drew G. I. Hart and civil rights heroine Carolyn McKinstry to campus in previous years.
