Blue River Church of the Brethren in Northern Indiana seeks to call an energetic and dynamic pastor to minister to the youth, young adults and married young adults segment of our church and to grow this segment of the congregation from the surrounding community.

Blue River COB Mission Statement: 
Blue River is a church that seeks to worship God Biblically, teach believers the Word of God, and proclaim the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ alone.

Position Description:

  1. The primary task of the Associate Pastor is to develop and implement a comprehensive ministry for youth, young adults and married young adults while upholding the New Testament doctrines in preaching, teaching, and life, with special emphasis on the doctrines described in the “Brethren Card.”
  2. He will identify & reach out to the youth, young adults, and married young adults in the Blue River COB surrounding community so that growth and retention can be achieved in this group of people.
  3. He will work to maintain continuity between this ministry and the church as a whole so that the transitions between the various groups are as smooth as possible. He will promote interaction and unity between all age groups within the church.
  4. He will work closely on a monthly basis with the Senior Pastor for personal growth and mentoring to ensure spiritual and doctrinal unity among the pastoral staff.
  5. He will provide a unified sense of purpose and direction in terms of evangelism, edification, discipleship and such other ministry involvement that serves to stimulate excitement and participation within the church and to attract other young people and their parents to Blue River and ultimately to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and a growing relationship with Him.
  6. He will coordinate Sunday school curriculum for youth, young adult, and married young adults in partnership with the Christian Education Committee while teaching the young adult/ married young adult.
  7. He will participate in worship services as requested, including filling the pulpit (without additional compensation) when the Pastor is away.
  8. He will be sensitive to the rich history and culture of Blue River COB while moving forward to minister to and grow the church in today’s secular environment.

Qualifications:

  1. Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the Blue River Church of the Brethren’s mission statement.
  2. Must possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth, young adults, and volunteers.
  3. Must have good written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.

Organizational Relationship: 
The position of Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults is directed by the Ministerial Committee. The Associate Pastor will communicate regularly with the Senior Pastor, Official Board, Ministerial Committee, and Youth Steering Committee for goal setting, sharing, evaluating, problem solving, and prayer support.

Christian Union seeks a qualified individual to serve as a Ministry Fellow to Ivy League University students.  Ministry Fellows are responsible for ministering to Christian and non-Christian students, overseeing programs and social events, teaching Christian students the Scriptures, and sharing the Gospel with non-believers.  Our website: http://www.christianunion.org/

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit and teach students the Scriptures in 12-week intensive small-group Bible Courses and in one-on-one settings
  • Recruit and coach teams of students to organize outreach, social and other events
  • Organize, implement and oversee additional important discipleship and outreach programs including conferences, evangelistic events, speaker series, and others as needed
  • Share the gospel with students individually, as well as in small and large group settings
  • Offer hospitality and friendship to students through meals, parties and other social gatherings
  • With other Christian Union Fellows at the end of each year, evaluate the effectiveness of ministry programs in order to suggest and implement modifications

Assume other responsibilities as needed for the sake of the ministry on campus, or for the sake of the overall Christian Union ministry

Qualifications:
Christian

  • Strong devotion to Jesus Christ, holiness, and a passion to make Him known
  • Knowledge of the basics of the faith, as well as the heart and capacity to study and teach complex theological issues
  • In agreement with our Statement of Faith and Ethics

Personal

  • Adaptable to the culture of an Ivy League school
  • Passion for students to know and follow Jesus Christ, and ability to form friendships with students quickly and easily
  • Excellent communication ability
  • Capable of delegating responsibility to students and coaching them to performance standards
  • Quick learning ability to absorb the best practices of the ministry
  • Strong teaming skills in order to work well with other Teaching and Ministry Fellows

Professional

  • Five years minimum professional experience
  • Ability to meet deadlines, and to work independently to complete tasks
  • Theological training helpful but not required

Note:
Christian Union has both Teaching Fellow and Ministry Fellow positions.  The requirements and responsibilities of these two different positions overlap in many ways, except for the expectation of stronger theological training and teaching ability for Teaching Fellows and stronger professional and organizational skills for Ministry Fellows.  Christian Union is currently seeking a Women’s Ministry Fellow to join its team ministering to undergraduate students at Harvard University by the summer of 2014.

Compensation is based on a number of factors and ranges from $45,000 – $90,000.  This is a full-time paid position, so no individual support-raising required.  You will, however, be asked to participate in general fund-raising activities.
