Lancers’ Offense Showcased in Rout of Missouri Baptist
In yet another display of its offensive prowess, Grace’s 16th-ranked men’s basketball team pounded Missouri Baptist 109-72 on Saturday in the Bennigan’s Terry Polston Hoops for Hope.
The Lancers (5-1) topped 100 points for the fourth time in six games, aided by a balanced attack that placed five players in double-digit scoring.
As a team Grace amassed 22 assists on 40 made field goals. They committed just eight turnovers while forcing the Spartans into 17 turnovers.
A pair of 3-pointers from Logan Irwin sparked Grace after the tipoff as the Lancers claimed a 16-5 lead. The Lancers’ offense was unstoppable for the final eight minutes of the first half as Grace’s lead exploded from 10 points to 32. Niko Read drained a trio of 3-pointers late in the half to lift Grace to a commanding 60-28 lead at halftime.
Grace’s effort only continued into the second half. The Spartans never came to within 30 points of Grace’s sizeable lead for the remainder of the game.
Niko Read led all players with 20 points, which included four 3-pointers. He has made at least three treys in five straight games for Grace.
Logan Irwin was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc for 16 points, and Greg Miller added 15 points and five boards. Kyle Fillman tallied 14 points and seven rebounds, and Brandon Vanderhegghen finished with 9 points, 7 assists and 2 steals.
Brock McFarland tallied 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, and freshman Eric Miller added five points and four boards.
Read and Miller were named to the All-Tournament Team after the weekend’s conclusion.
The Lancers will take a full week away from competition before beginning the Crossroads League season on Nov. 26 at Taylor University.
