Women’s Basketball Ready for Pair of NCAA Division I Tests

Grace’s women’s basketball team is no newcomer to NCAA Division I competition. The Lady Lancers played at IPFW last season and took on Valparaiso in 2010 exhibition play as well.

But Grace has upped the ante in 2012 as they will face two D-1 opponents in four days starting Saturday.

The Lady Lancers will travel to Indianapolis to face IUPUI on Saturday for an exhibition game before playing at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum on Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. for a rematch with IPFW in regular-season competition.

“For us now, we are going into both of these games 4-0 and playing good basketball. The fun thing is we have a couple games we can get better at,” said Grace head coach Scott Blum. “We’re not expected to go in and there beat them, so we’re not too worried about winning or losing. I’m excited for these girls to have the chance to play against two very good programs in Indiana. It will be a good opportunity to play against Division I teams and see where Grace stands.”

Grace gave the IPFW Mastodons all they could handle during the 2011 campaign. The Lady Lancers were within one bucket of IPFW with 7:19 remaining in regulation before fading late in a 71-54 defeat.

So far in the 2012-13 season, Grace is off to a fast start. The Lady Lancers boast a perfect 4-0 record following a hard-fought road win on Tuesday over Indiana Tech.

Grace is coming off its first 20-win season in program history as the Lady Lancers finished with a record of 20-15 last year.
