Grace College Art Department – Fall 2011 Art Encounters Series

Grace College’s Art Department is hosting their Fall 2011 Art Encounters series for students in grades 1-12.  The program is directed by Grace graduate, Leah Damon and will begin October 13th and run every Thursday and Saturday through November 5th.  Each class is $35 per student.

The Thursday night series, entitled ‘Art with the Not-So-Famous Masters’ will meet from 4:30pm-6pm in Mount Memorial Hall room 105.  This course will begin on October 13th with classes following on October 20th, 27th, and November 3rd.  In this class, students will be given the opportunity to experiment with a variety of exciting materials such as pastels, plaster wrap, paint, and other mixed media.  Students will be studying the styles and works of some of the not-so-famous artists from history such as Marc Chagall and Alberto Giacometti.  In each class, students will create original works of art in the style of these masters.

The Saturday afternoon series, entitled ‘Sculpture for Kids’ will meet from 12:30pm-2pm in Mount Memorial Hall room 105.  This course will begin on October 15th with classes following on October 22nd, 19th, and November 5th.  This class will involve the study of various sculptural materials and methods including Sculpey Clay, recycled art, and low-relief.  Students will study ancient and contemporary sculpture artists, and will be creating 3-D works of art that incorporate life rendering as well as art from the imagination.
