Allen Stanford’s suspected Ponzi scheme, the South Florida Business Journal reported, which is seeking more than $1 million in restitution from the professional basketball team. According to court documents, the newspaper said, the Heat collected $1.3 million from Stanford for advertising and sponsorship fees and should now return those ill-gotten gains for disbursement to victims of Stanford’s multibillion-dollar scam. Earlier this month, the newspaper noted, another big name in sports – professional golfer Vijay Singh – wound up slapped with a similar lawsuit, seeking $10.5 million in restitution, filed by the same Stanford receiver.
