Grace College and Theological Seminary: A private college in Indiana

Grace College School of Music

Grace College School of Music Transition

It is with regret, that as of May 9th, 2010, the Music Department will start being phased out at Grace College and Theological Seminary.  Following the spring 2010 semester, music courses will be provided that enables those music majors who completed at least eight-six credit hours by the end of the fall 2009 semester to complete their music degrees at Grace. This transition, during the spring 2010 semester, is part of the institution’s comprehensive strategic plan, itself the result of several years of analysis and planning.

Grace College and Theological Seminary began strategic planning several years ago and included a goal to evaluate all academic programs at the institution. The decision to close the School of Music, eliminate the music majors, and not renew several faculty contracts was not based on the quality of the music program or the music faculty—we recognize the music program’s fit with its mission as well as the high quality of its curriculum and graduates.

We are offering our assistance to students affected by this decision in the way of counseling about the most advantageous options for their personal situations. We are also working with them to aid transitions into other major programs or, as necessary, other institutions. The admissions office is in contact with prospective students about this decision as well.

If you have specific questions or concerns about these decisions, you may contact the college at 800. 544.7223. To speak to the provost, Dr. Bill Katip, please dial extension 6134, or for the dean of admissions, Cindy Sisson, please dial extension 6397.
