The current direction of environmental careers and graduate education make it important for students to have experience in research and internships while still in college. At Grace there are many opportunities for students to conduct research projects with faculty mentors in plentiful aquatic ecosystems in the area with over 100 lakes and almost 500 miles of streams in the surrounding county. Grace College also has over 25 acres of natural area adjacent to campus which offer many potential research opportunities in terrestrial ecosystems. Grace is also well-connected to the local community, allowing placement of students in environmentally related internships.
Grace College also houses a water quality outreach initiative, called Kosciusko Lakes and Streams (KLAS), which provides further opportunities for students at Grace College with environmental interests. KLAS is a community water quality program centered at Grace College which is focused on protecting and enhancing local water quality.

Many local organizations and businesses have offered suggestions for beneficial research projects and expressed interest in student interns. KLAS also works with local schools to promote water quality education through field days, curriculum enhancements, sampling programs, and classroom demonstrations. Students interested in environmental education could greatly benefit from involvement in KLAS as well.
