Requirements for the Environmental Biology major as well as individual courses have been designed to emphasize hands-on, field-based learning in addition to classroom instruction.  The major has been intentionally constructed to prepare both students desiring immediate employment in an environmental career following their undergraduate graduation from Grace as well as those who plan to go on to graduate school to further their formal education.

Goals for students in the program:

  • Students will learn and practice skills that are applicable to current environmental careers.
  • Students will attain a strong scientific competence as it relates to the natural environment through foundational science and math coursework as well as more advanced environmental coursework.
  • Students will gain experience in the application of their knowledge through research projects and community internships.
  • Students will develop a commitment to environmental stewardship as God desires of all Christians.

Important characteristics of program:

  • The program is committed to serving students planning to continue their education in graduate school as well as students immediately entering careers following graduation from Grace.
  • Through an affiliation with Kosciusko Lakes and Streams, students in the program have a unique opportunity for cutting edge research opportunities and a wide variety of community internship possibilities.
  • Strong emphasis on environmental stewardship from individual faculty members, the environmental biology curriculum, and even the college as a whole.
