Women's Soccer Coaching Staff

Michael Voss - Head Coach (michael.voss@grace.edu)

In three years, Michael Voss has quickly and clearly redefined Grace Women’s Soccer. Since accepting the job in 2007, Voss has aggressively recruited women who not only compete at a high level on the field, but who also have a passion for bringing glory to God.

In 2009, Voss led the Lady Lancers to its most successful season in the program’s history. Grace began the season undefeated in non-conference play and ran their streak to 10 consecutive wins before first tasting defeat. The women finished the season with a program-best 14-6-3 record and its first trip to the NCCAA National Tournament in a decade. As a result, Voss was named the NCCAA Regional Coach of the Year for 2009.

Prior to coming to Grace, Voss and his family worked as missionaries to the southern jungle of Belize, Central America. While there, Voss taught discipleship and evangelism through soccer. He was also the head coach for the Toledo United Professional Futbol Club. The United competed in the BPFL, fighting for a CONCACAF Champions Cup bid.

From 2004-06 Voss was the head women's soccer coach and Associate Faculty at Mt. San Jacinto College. While there he posted a 21-13-6 record. In 2003-2004 Voss also was the men's and women's assistant soccer coach at California State University at San Bernardino. The Coyotes men's team produced its first winning season since 1993, going 12-8-1, winning the CCAA's South Division title and advancing to the conference tournament semifinals. The women were almost as successful, posting an 11-8-2 record, qualifying for the NCAA West Regional for the first time in the 15-year history of the program

Voss also worked at the Calvary Chapel Christian Schools in Murrieta, California; from 1996-2005 he was the Athletic Director while being the director of soccer and the head girls soccer coach from 1997-2006. Coach Voss started the soccer program there and compiled a record of 102-51-17.  From 2004-06 Voss was the head women's soccer coach and Associate Faculty at Mt. San Jacinto College. While there he posted a 21-13-6 record.

He has been named Coach of the Year five times, not counting last year. The Christian League named him Coach of the Year in 2001-02 while the Big Sky League did the same in the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons. He also earned the honors in 2005 in the Foothill Conference. Voss attended Santa Clara (Calif.) University from 1991-93 and was a member of the soccer team that finished 20-1-2 and was NCAA Division 1 National Finalist in 1991. He would complete his undergraduate work at Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University in 1996 with a degree in Religion and an emphasis in Biblical Studies and Greek.

Voss is licensed with a USSF "C" and an NSCAA "Advanced National Diploma." He has earned the title "Certified Athletic Administrator" from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He also serves as director of the intramural programs for the Grace College student body.

Michael and his wife Summer live in Winona Lake, Ind., with their three boys, Justus, Cole, Landan, and their daughter, Kaina.

Jon Hoover - Assistant Coach

Jon Hoover is entering his third season with the women’s soccer program.  Coach Hoover was promoted to the main assistant in the spring of 2009.  Hoover graduated from Grace in December of 2001 with a degree in Physical Education and Health.  He is currently employed at Edgewood Middle School, where he teaches Physical Education and Health.

Hoover is no stranger to Grace College’s soccer programs.  He played goalkeeper for the Lancers from 1997-2000, earning All-Conference honors three times and NCCAA All-American honors once.  Jon also participated in track at Grace, where he holds a few school records.  As he finished his schooling, Hoover joined the coaching staff for the men’s team in 2001.  His tenure with the men’s team continued for five years until he joined the coaching staff at Lakeland Christian Academy.  For two years Hoover was the head coach of the JV program and the assistant for the varsity program.  In 2008, Hoover took over the varsity program as the head coach.

Coach Hoover is licensed with a USSF National “C” license.  He is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Physical Education with a specialization in coaching from Ball State University.

Jon and his wife Emily live in Winona Lake with their son Alex.
