Women's Soccer Coaching Staff Michael Voss-Head Coach (michael.voss@grace.edu)
Michael Voss is heading into his third season as the head coach of the women's soccer program. Voss will also continue in his position as director of the intramural programs for the Grace College student body. Voss and his family recently finished work as missionaries to the southern jungle of Belize, Central America. While there, Voss taught discipleship and evangelism through soccer. He was also the head coach for the Toledo United Professional Futbol Club. The United competed in the BPFL, fighting for a CONCACAF Champions Cup bid. Prior to the mission field in Central America, Voss worked at the Calvary Chapel Christian Schools in Murrieta, California. From 1996-2005 he was the Athletic Director while being the director of soccer and the head girls soccer coach from 1997-2006. During this time Coach Voss started the soccer program from scratch and compiling a record of 102-51-17. From 2004-06 Voss was the head women's soccer coach and Associate Faculty at Mt. San Jacinto College. While there he posted a 21-13-6 record bringing unprecedented regional and statewide ranking and recognition to the program in just two seasons. In 2003-2004 Voss also was the men's and women's assistant soccer coach at California State University at San Bernardino. The Coyotes men's team produced its first winning season since 1993, going 12-8-1 and winning the CCAA's South Division title and advancing to the conference tournament semifinals where CSUSB lost 1-0 in overtime to Chico State. The Wildcats went on to win the CCAA and West Region titles and reach the national title match. The women were almost as successful, posting an 11-8-2 record, qualifying for the NCAA West Regional for the first time in the 15-year history of the program, where they lost 1-0 to CCAA and West Region champion UC San Diego. Five times Voss has been named Coach of the Year. The Christian League named him Coach of the Year in 01-02 while the Big Sky League did the same in the 02-03, 03-04 and 05-06 seasons. He also earned the honors in 2005 in the Foothill Conference. Voss attended Santa Clara (Calif.) University from 1991-93 and was a member of the soccer team that finished 20-1-2 and was NCAA Division 1 National Finalist in 1991. He would complete his undergraduate work at Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University in 1996 with a degree in Religion and an emphasis in Biblical Studies and Greek. Voss is licensed with a USSF "C" and an NSCAA "Advanced National Diploma." He has earned the title "Certified Athletic Administrator" from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Michael and his wife Summer live in Winona Lake with their three boys, Justus-9, Cole-8, Landan-6, and their daughter, Kaina-4.
Jon Hoover is entering his second season with the women’s soccer program. Coach Hoover was promoted to the main assistant in the spring of 2009. Hoover graduated from Grace in December of 2001 with a degree in Physical Education and Health. He is currently employed at Edgewood Middle School, where he teaches Physical Education and Health. Hoover is no stranger to Grace College’s soccer programs. He played goalkeeper for the Lancers from 1997-2000, earning All-Conference honors three times and NCCAA All-American honors once. Jon also participated in track at Grace, where he holds a few school records. As he finished his schooling, Hoover joined the coaching staff for the men’s team in 2001. His tenure with the men’s team continued for five years until he joined the coaching staff at Lakeland Christian Academy. For two years Hoover was the head coach of the JV program and the assistant for the varsity program. In 2008, Hoover took over the varsity program as the head coach. Aubrey Alcorn-Asst. Coach Aubrey Alcorn joins the Lady Lancers' coaching staff after graduating last spring. Alcorn was a four-year player on Grace's soccer team and graduated in 2008. She is married to Kyle Alcorn, who is an assistant coach on Grace's men's soccer team.
