WINONA LAKE, Ind. -- Five Grace cross-country runners were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes on Friday.
On the women’s team, Mary MacLeod, Amy Misak, Ashley Thomas and MariJean Wegert received the prestigious academic honor. Samuel Roth represented the men’s cross country team.
Scholar-athletes must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and be at least a junior.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- On a wet, cold and windy day, the Grace College women’s cross country team ran their best team race of the year. MariJean Wegert led the Lady Lancers with a 26th place finish. Ashley Thomas ran a personal best by 11 seconds with a time of 19:36. Amy Misak, Mary MacLeod, and Bethany Knepper also ran their best times of the year. The race featured several ranked teams from the surrounding states, and Grace finished 13th out of 21.
The next race for the Lady Lancers is MCC conference meet on Nov. 7 in Fort Wayne at The Plex, hosted by St. Francis.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Grace College women’s cross country team ran their best race of the year Saturday at the Bethel Invitational on Saturday.
Every Lady Lancer ran her best time of the season, including Jessica Soule and Jessica Hill who ran their first races of the year.
Marijean Wegert led the team with a 4th place finish in 19:07. Ashley Thomas also ran a sub-20 minute time and finished in the top 25. Grace finished fifth out of six teams. Two of the top four teams in the invitational were ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA, while the other two were receiving votes.
MARION, Ind. -- The men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday.
The women finished 4th out of four teams. MariJean Wegert led the way with a 4th place finish in the time of 19:31, her best time of the year. Mary MacLeod, Megan Dufrenne and Bethany Knepper also ran their best times of the year.
The men did not field a complete team due to injuries; however, Dan Ng and Samuel Roth both ran their best times of the year.
Both teams compete next Saturday at the Bethel Invitational. The meet will take place at St. Patrick’s County Park in South Bend. The women compete at 10:45 a.m. and the men at 11:30 a.m.
The Grace College men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet hosted by Indiana State.
In the Little State competition, the women placed 8th out of 14 teams and the men placed 13th out of 14. The women were led by the 21st place finish of MariJean Wegert and strong performances by Ashley Thomas(25th) and Amy Misak (33rd). The men were led by Randy Sterk who placed 45th, and Daniel Ng who placed 58th.
The team's next meet is the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on Oct. 3.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Grace College's men's and women's cross country teams began their respective seasons Saturday at the IPFW Invitational. The Lady Lancers placed 4th out of five teams, while the men finished fifth, only two points behind conference rival St. Francis.
The site of Saturday's meet is also the site for the MCC conference tournament on Nov. 7.
Both teams will compete next Friday, Sept. 18, at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet in Terre Haute. The women will race at 4:30 p.m., and the men will start at 5:15 p.m.
