MCC CHAMPIONSHIPS

(4/26/08) Goshen, Ind.- Inspite of more blustery weather, the Grace women's track team put on a great performance at the MCC Conference Track Championships resulting in a sixth place team finish. The women were lead by the two conference champion performances of Amy Misak and MariJean Wegert. Competing just 5 days after having the stitches removed from her left ankle from getting spiked her last steeplechase race, Amy Misak lead from start to finish to win the 3000 steeplechase. Her time of 12:16.09 was 53 seconds faster than her pervious school record. MariJean Wegert also captured her own championship with a win in the 800. Her time of 2:18.58 broke her own school record and is less than a second from qualifying for NAIA Nationals.

The women were strong in several other events. Kiera Gray broke her school record in the high jump with a third place finish in the high jump. Kiera Gray placed 4'th in the 100 hurdles (16.13) and Tara Drew placed eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.55) qualifying for the NCCAA. Tara also placed sixth in the discus (114' 6") qualifying for the NCCAA's in her third event, and eighth in the javelin (98' 11"). Rebekah Lambright also scored in two events with a sixth place finish in the shot put (37' 3") and an eighth place finish in the hammer (120" 00"). The women also placed in all three relay events: 5'th in the 4x100, 8'th in the 4x400 and 6'th in the 4x800.

Several women will continue to compete next week in the NCCAA Outdoor National Track Meet on May 2-3 with four athletes trying to qualify for the NAIA Nationals.
