Michael Reitz - Baseball
August 17, 2010

Grace College's baseball team has signed Lenawee Christian High School standout Michael Reitz.

Michael was a four-year pitcher for Lenawee Christian. The 6 foot left-hander was an All-District winner who finished with one of the top strikeout totals in the county.

"I chose Grace because it is a Christian institution where I can further my relationship with God as well as my education," Michael said. "I want to continue to use my God-given talents to play baseball to the best of my ability."

The Adrian, Mich., native plans to study business management at Grace. In high school, Michael was on the honor roll every year. He was also a member of the student council representative, and he was a class chaplain.

"Michael has a very competitive spirit and possesses a natural instinct for the game that can't be taught," said Lenawee Christian head coach Rich Clay. "He has great hands and is very crafty. We always felt comfortable putting him on the mound in a big game."

Michael is the son of Gene and Robin Reitz.

Joshua Brown - Baseball
August 3, 2010

The Grace College baseball team landed Fairfield High School standout Joshua Brown to play for the Lancers.

Joshua was a four-year letterman in baseball for Fairfield. He won All-Conference honors and was a member of two sectional champions and one regional champion during his high school career.

"I chose Grace for the great Christian atmosphere that will allow me to grow closer to God and develop into the man he wants me to be," Joshua said. "My goal is to excel academically and choose a career with which I can impact the world."

Joshua was just as successful in the classroom as he was on the field. He was Valedictorian of his senior class, won the Tom Clem Memorial Citizenship Award, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

He also received an Academic All-State award and was a two-time mental attitude winner while at Fairfield. Joshua was also was a four-year member of Fairfield's basketball team, where he played point guard.

“We are truly excited about Josh joining our baseball program," said Grace College head coach Josh Bailey. "We are getting not only a quality baseball player, but a great student, a proven leader and a young man with tremendous character. We are looking forward to the impact he will have on our program and the community in the next few years.”

Joshua is the son of Jim and Anne Brown.

Dellos Schabel - Baseball
July 5, 2010



Grace’s baseball team has signed Tri-West High School's Dellos Schabel for the 2010-11 season.

“I chose Grace College because of the Christian education and opportunity with baseball,” Dellos said. “I look forward to participating with other athletes to win and grow as both a player and person.”

Dellos was a four-year letter winner in baseball at Tri-West. He was named First Team All-Sagamore Conference, First Team All-County and was selected as a member of the East-West All Stars.

At Tri-West, Dellos was a member of the A-B Honor Roll and he plans to pursue a degree in Business while attending Grace.

“We are very excited to have Dellos join our family at Grace,” said Grace head coach Josh Bailey. “He comes from a quality program and has a desire to excel at the next level.”

Dellos is the son of Todd and List Schabel.

Cody Barrier - Baseball

Grace's baseball program has signed Bremen High School standout Cody Barrier.

Cody is a four-year letter winner at Bremen. He was named First Team All-Conference during his junior and senior year, and was named First Team All-State in 2009. Cody was a four-year award winner in baseball, basketball and football.

"I loved the atmosphere and campus at Grace," Cody said. "I hope to help the baseball program continue to build success and excel academically."

At Grace, Cody plans to major in Sports Management while maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

"Cody is a very talented young man," said Grace College head coach Josh Bailey. "He is a great competitor both on and off the field and we look forward to having him join our family at Grace."

Cody is the son of Craig Barrier and Jane Wawrzynski.

Joshua Mundt - Baseball

Grace's men's baseball program has signed Rochester High School's Joshua Mundt for the 2010-11 season.

Joshua participated in baseball for four years at Rochester High School.

"I believe Joshua is a steal for Grace," said Rochester head baseball coach Brian Hooker. "Joshua has not tapped his full potential yet. He has a great set of eyes, is a solid stick from the left side and will work hard to take his game to the next level."

Joshua was an infielder for the Zebras during his high school career.

"I look forward to playing at Grace," said Joshua. "I look forward to a great experience both on and off the field."

Jacob Springer - Baseball
May 27, 2010



Grace's baseball team has signed Prairie Heights standout Jacob Springer for the 2011 season.

Jacob is a four-year pitcher for the Panthers. At Prairie Heights, he was named All-Conference three times, 2 time All-Area Honorable Mention and was named team MVP in 2009. He also was a three year varsity football award winner.

"I loved the atmosphere and opportunity to grow spiritually," Jacob said. "I hope to help the baseball program continue to build success and excel academically."

At Grace, Jacob hopes to double major in Business & Sports Management while maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

"Jacob is a very dedicated and talented young man," said Prairie Heights head coach Aaron Modert. "He is a great competitor both on and off the field. We wish him all the best at Grace College."

Jacob is the son of Brian & Sharon Springer, and they reside in Angola, Ind.

Dennis Kan & Taylor Golding - Baseball

Grace’s baseball team has signed two of Petoskey High Schools (Petoskey, MI) best for their 2010-11 campaign in Dennis Kan & Taylor Golding.

“I am extremely excited to have Dennis & Taylor play at the next level, said Petoskey head baseball coach Shawn Racignol. "They both have landed at a place that will develop them as young men and give them the opportunity to continue to play the game they love."

Dennis is a four-year varsity award winner and a scholar athlete at Petoskey High School. Dennis was named 1st team All-Conference, 1st team All-District, and 1st team All-Area while serving as team captain for 2 years.

"I chose Grace for the Christian atmosphere and the opportunity to play baseball for God's glory at the college level."

At Petoskey, Dennis earned 10 letters during his career. He played basketball, football, and baseball.

He plans on studying Youth Ministry at Grace.

Dennis is the son of Jim & Debbie Kan.

Taylor is a four-year varsity award winner and a scholar athlete at Petoskey High School. Taylor was 1st team All-Conference, 1st Team All-District, 1st team All-Area, and received the prestigious Hansen Award as a junior.

"I chose Grace for the great academics, strong Christian atmosphere, baseball, and for it being a good fit."

He plans on studying Education/Youth Ministry at Grace.

Taylor is the son of Ken & Connie Golding.

Michael Moreno - Baseball

Grace's baseball team signed Michael Moreno, a prospect from Eastern High School in Greentown, Ind.

"Financially, it made the most sense. The location was great for my family, and the atmosphere of the school is what I'm looking for," Michael said. "I want to help the team any way I can and become a major addition to the team in a leadership and offensive aspect."

Michael is a four-year player at Eastern High and plays outfield, pitcher and catcher. He was named 1st Team MIC All-Conference in 2008 and 2009 and is a two-time Howard County All-Star. He was also the Team MVP in 2008 and earned the Hitting Award two years in a row for his team (2007 and 2008).

"Michael is one of the hardest working players that I have coached in all of my years involved with baseball," said Eastern High head coach Steve Swinson. "As good as a baseball player that Michael is, I believe that he is even a better individual all around. He is usually the first in and last out at practice and is always working to get better."

At Grace, Michael plans on majoring in business. He is the son of Pete and Deanna Moreno.

Travis Jones - Baseball
May 10, 2010

Grace's baseball team signed Travis Jones out of Sunnyside High School in Grandview, Wash.

Travis was a four-year lettermen for Sunnyside and a two-year team captain. He stands at 5 foot 10 inches tall and played catcher, infield and outfield. He was also a varsity midfielder for one year on the soccer field.

"I have coached Travis for three out of the four years that he has played at Sunnyside High School," said his high school head coach Terry Shines. "Travis has played a number of positions for me and had played them very well. With that, one may say he is a utility player. Travis a great student and is a hard worker both on and off the field."

At Sunnyside, Travis made Honor Roll twice, was a two-time Student of the Month in science, was a three-time Student of the Month in agriculture and holds a 3.733 GPA. He plans on majoring in Sport Management.

"Christ comes first at Grace," Travis said. "Most of my family went to Grace and loved it, and I want to help the Grace baseball team build their program."

Travis is the son of Rodney and Rebekah Jones.

Dylan Martin - Baseball
April 19, 2010

Grace's baseball team signed Borden High School's Dylan Martin for the 2011 season.

Dylan is a four-year player and three-year team captain for the Braves. At Borden, he was named All-Conference twice, MVP twice and was the team's RBI and home run leader. He was also a three-sport athlete for the majority of his high school career, playing tennis (four years) and basketball (three years).

"I loved the atmosphere, players and staff," Dylan said. "It was a perfect match for me. I knew it was where I wanted to be after my first visit on campus. I want to be a leader, role model and help the team in every way that I can."

At Grace, Dylan hopes to major in Elementary Education and maintain a 3.0 GPA in college. He was the class president at Borden.

"We are very excited to have Dylan come to Grace," said head coach Josh Bailey. "He is a great picture of a student-athlete and will contribute a lot to this campus and student body."

Dylan is the son of Cara and David Martin, and they reside in Borden, Ind.

John Nuppnau - Baseball
March 4, 2010

Grace College's baseball program landed another recruit in Valparaiso's John Nuppnau.

"John comes from a great baseball program at Valparaiso," said Grace baseball coach Josh Bailey. "He is a tremendous athlete with a lot of potential. He is also a strong student that takes academics seriously. He will impact our program immediately.” 

John is a senior first basemen for Valparaiso. He is a two-year letter winner in baseball and football (wide receiver). He was also First Team Academic All-State in football.

"I chose Grace because of the small Christian campus," John said. "I also am looking forward to the opportunity to play baseball collegiately at Grace."

He is a member of the National Honor Society and looks to continue success in the classroom. One of his goals as a Lancer is to maintain a 3.5 GPA.

John is the son of Mike and Willa Nuppnau.

Cameron Spitaels - Baseball
February 19, 2010

Grace College's baseball program signed Nappanee's Cameron Spitaels, a NorthWood High School outfielder.

"He has a tremendous work ethic and has developed into a very good high school player," said NorthWood head coach Nick Davis. "Cam's best days of baseball are ahead of him. He will be a great addition to the Grace baseball program."

Cameron is a three-year lettermen in both baseball and football at NorthWood. He received Batting Champion and Most Improved accolades in baseball and is a four-year Scholar-Athlete. He also made the Honor Roll and is a member of the National Honor Society.

"I chose Grace because it has a great campus, great people, and I want to play baseball," Cameron said. "I want to be the best I can be for my team."

He is the son of Randy and Annette Spitaels.

Brett Houlihan - Baseball
February 17, 2010

The Grace College baseball program has signed Brett Houlihan, a Triton High School standout.

"I love the small-campus atmosphere that Grace provides," Brett said. "I am looking forward to joining the program and enjoying my new teammates."

Brett is a pitcher for Triton where he has won All-Conference honorable mention awards twice. While at Grace, Brett plans on majoring in Sports Management and Communications.

“Brett is a highly competitive, successful athlete that will make our program better," said Grace College head coach Josh Bailey. "He is willing to put in the hard work necessary to impact our team and our campus in a meaningful way."

Brett is the son of Gary and Nancy Houlihan.

Cameron Campbell - Baseball
February 17, 2010

Grace College's baseball team has added Southwood High School's Cameron Campbell to its roster for the 2011 season.

Cameron is a four-year catcher for Southwood, winning All-Conference honors in 2008 and 2009. He also won the RBI Award, Best Hitter Award and Team MVP last season. Cameron played football for Southwood, as well, where he was named Class A First Team All-State by the Associated Press.

"I chose Grace because it was the perfect fit," Cameron said. "I love the coaching staff, the players, and the atmosphere at Grace."

Cameron has been involved in various activities at Southwood, including student body president and being a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the class cabinet. Cameron plans on majoring in Social Studies Education while at Grace.

"I want to come in as a freshman and simply bring a spark to the program," Cameron said. "I hope to eventually help Grace become the powerhouse in the Mid-Central College Conference."

Cameron is the son of Curt and Pat Campbell.

Kent Judy - Baseball
February 4, 2010

The Grace College baseball team signed another recruit for 2011 in Kent Judy of Greenfield, Ind. Kent was home schooled and was a pitcher and center fielder for the Indianapolis Kings.

"He is a leader on the team," said Indianapolis Kings head coach Steve Marlow. "He loves to be aggressive and is the guy who sparks and ignites the team. He is the guy I want on the mound when the game is on the line."

Kent played four years of baseball and four years of basketball in high school. He earned the Junior Varsity Golden Glove Award in baseball and received Junior Varsity Defensive Player, Junior Varsity MVP and Varsity Most Improved honors on the hardwood.

"I chose Grace because it claimed the name of Christ, had a graphic design program and allowed me to play baseball," Kent said. "I want to strive to manage and a 3.5 GPA or above while playing baseball. My goal is to glorify God in the talent he has given me."

Steven Hovermale - Baseball
January 29, 2010

The Grace College baseball team has signed Livonia Churchill High School's Steven Hovermale to its roster for next season.

Steven has played pitcher, first base and outfield for Livonia Churchill for the past two years and was a member of a team that won city champs.

"I chose Grace College because of the terrific atmosphere with everyone committed to their faith," Steven said. "I want to help make Grace a contender for a title every year."

While at Grace, Steven plans to major in Sports Management.

"He is a solid student and a tremendous young man which we're excited to add to our program," said Grace baseball coach Josh Bailey. "I look for Steven to make an immediate impact on our program beginning this fall."

Steven is the son of Greg and Kelly Hovermale.

Connor Petry - Baseball
January 29, 2010

The Grace College baseball team landed another recruit for the 2010-11 season in Greenfield Central's Connor Petry.

"Connor's versatility will add depth to our team immediately," said Grace baseball coach Josh Bailey. "We are very happy he has chosen to continue his athletic career at Grace College."

Connor is an outfielder and middle infielder for Greenfield Central High School. His intended major at Grace is Finance.

"I chose Grace for the small school atmosphere and the Christian environment," Connor said. "I am excited to help build up the program."

Connor is the son of Warren and Patti Petry. His brother, Josh, is a catcher for the Lancers.

Turner Hays - Baseball
January 29, 2010

Grace College's baseball team has added another piece to its puzzle in Northfield pitcher Turner Hays.

Turner has played three years of baseball at Northfield High School and was named a Scholar-Athlete. He was also a member of the state champion team in travel ball in 2006.

"I felt like it was a good fit when I walked on campus," Turner said. "I want to work hard to make myself a better person and ball player."

He plans on majoring in Criminal Justice while at Grace to ultimately become a police officer.

"We are excited about Turner joining our program and our pitching staff," said Grace baseball coach Josh Bailey. "He has a lot of potential. We look forward to his continued improvement as a player as well as his growth in the classroom."

Turner is the son of Beckie Elliot.
