Knutsson, Copeland Lead Lancers at MCC Championship

KENDALLVILLE, Ind. -- The Grace College golf team completed the 2010 Mid-Central College Conference Golf Tournament at Cobblestone Golf Course with an eighth-place finish.

The Lancers were led by the play of Henric Knutsson and Stephen Copeland. Knutsson shot a 228 over three rounds, which tied him for 12th place in the tournament. His total increased by two strokes each round. Knutsson was Grace's top golfer in each tournament this year.

Copeland finished the tournament nine strokes out of the top 10. His second round 73 was the lowest total for a Grace player this year.

Josh Troyer completed his freshman year by lowering his total in each of the three rounds, finishing with an 85 in the third round.

Grace Fires Season-Low Round

KENDALLVILLE, Ind. -- Grace's golf team competed in the Saint Francis Invitational on Tuesday, firing their lowest round of the year at the Cobblestone Golf Course.

Although the Lancers finished ninth out of nine teams, they were only four strokes out of sixth place after the first round against stiff competition. Scott Hepler (78), Henric Knutsson (79) and Stephen Copeland (80) led Grace to a 318 in excellent conditions.

That round was Grace's lowest of the spring season by 10 strokes and their lowest of the year by six strokes.

However, the Lancers struggled to close with a 328 finish in the final round. It was the first time Grace had walked 36 holes in one day all year. Knutsson and Copeland remained steady, matching their scores from the first round.

Cornerstone won the invite with a score of 585.

The Lancers will finish their season with the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday. Grace will return to Cobblestone for their third tournament in a row.

Lancers Finish Sixth in Second Invitational

KENDALLVILLE, Ind. -- Grace's men's golf team participated in the Saint Francis Invitational on Friday and Saturday, finishing sixth out of nine teams.

The Lancers had to deal with a strong wind and cold conditions at Noble Hawk Golf Links on Friday, but managed to fire a team score of 333. Considering the weather, Grace's No. 1 golfer Henric Knutsson shot a solid 79 to lead the way for the Lancers.

Entering the second day, the Lancers were in contention to potentially finish in the top four; however, no player broke 80 and the Lancers staggered to shoot a 337 at Cobblestone Golf Course.

Grace defeated Holy Cross College, Goshen College and tied Calumet College of Saint Joseph. Huntington University earned the victory, shooting a two-day total of 634.

After playing in two invitationals in the last week, the Lancers have a 10-day break before they return to Cobblestone Golf course for a 36-hole invitational on April 20.

Lancers Start Spring Season at IWU

MARION, Ind. -- Grace's golf team opened up the spring portion of their schedule with a fourth-place finish at the IWU Invitational.

The Lancers improved nearly twenty strokes between rounds to finish the second day with a respectable 328. Henric Knutsson shot a tournament-low for Grace with a 76 in the second round. Freshman Josh Troyer dropped his total by ten strokes.

The Lancers continue their season at the St. Francis Invitational from April 9-10.

Knutsson Finishes Eighth at Bethel Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Sophomore Henric Knutsson led the Lancers to an eleventh-place finish at the Bethel Invitational with a score of 149. Knutsson placed eighth individually with rounds of 74 and 75.

Stephen Copeland and Scott Hepler were second on the team with scores of 168. Copeland shot two consistent 84s, while Hepler improved his second day score by ten strokes (89, 79).

The Lancers finished up their fall season at Blackthorn Golf Club by finishing ahead of four other teams, including MCC opponent Goshen. The men finished just behind four other MCC teams: Taylor (10th), Spring Arbor (9th), Bethel (8th), and St. Francis (6th).

Major Improvements on Day Two

MARION, Ind. -- After major struggles on Monday at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational (held at the Meshingomesia Country Club), Grace's men's golf team improved its team total by 19 stokes by the end of Tuesday. The Lancers finished 8th out of 9 teams.

Junior Steve Copeland improved his two-day total by 12 strokes, shooting a 79 on Tuesday. Sophomore Henric Knutsson led the way for the Lancers with a 165.

Men's Golf Opens 2009 Season

The Grace College men's golf team began the 2009-10 season with a tenth-place finish (out of 16) in the St. Francis Invitational.

Without junior Tad Nieter, who is redshirting this year with an injured wrist and knee, the Lancers shot a 325 on Monday at Cobblestone and a 324 on Tuesday at Noble Hawk.

Sophomore Henric Knutsson led the team on both days with a 76 on Monday and a 77 on Tuesday. Scott Hepler had five birdies in his second round to finish with a 78, a five stroke improvement from his first round.
