Indiana Wesleyan Hands Grace Back to Back Losses
(3/24/08) Marion, Ind.-The Grace College baseball team traveled to Marion for the second time in four days to play a make-up game from this past Saturday. In the opener, the Lancers would score first with two runs in the opening inning. Freshman Michael Clark would take the mound for the Lancers as Wesleyan would tie the game at the bottom of the first inning and add two more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead.
The Lancers could not get their bats going as they would only collect six hits in the game and IWU would add another run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to close out the Lancers 7-2. Freshman Chris Hammett would have a big day for the Lancers as he would go 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in game one. Clark would throw six innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs while striking out 4 Wildcat batters. Junior Joel Herschberger went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
In the second game, Wesleyan again got on the board early, posting an eight run first inning. The Lancers would not be able to overcome the deficit and could not get the bats going before IWU would add another five runs in the second inning. The Wildcats would pull away to finish with a 15-0 victory. The Lancer bright spot was freshman Chris Hammett who went 2-for-2 in the game with a double. Freshman Brad Heintz took the loss in game two as the Lancers drop to 1-11 on the year and 0-4 in MCC play.
Grace looks to get back on track tomorrow afternoon at Huntington University. Game time begins at 4:00 p.m.
