Grace College and Theological Seminary: A private college in Indiana

Orthopaedic Scholar Institute (OSI)

OSI LogoThe Orthopaedic Scholar Institute (OSI) is an extracurricular program created for the best and brightest Grace College business students.  Grace College partners with leading orthopaedic companies in preparing Grace College students to excel as leaders within that prestigious international industry.

Students accepted into the OSI program receive specialized training in communication, image management, group dynamics, personality assessment, anatomy and physiology, interview preparation and other transferable skills that local orthopaedic companies have identified as strengths they are looking for in their interns and employees.

Students also receive individual mentoring during the training process.  After months of preparation during the fall and early spring semesters of their junior year at Grace, OSI scholars are then sent to interview for available orthopaedic internships for that summer and/or their senior year.  Through their OSI training and internships, successful scholars are well-prepared and are in a strategic position to be the preferred candidates for full-time orthopaedic employment opportunities.

Why Orthopaedics? Warsaw, Indiana, is the "Orthopaedic Capital of the World," accounting for two-thirds of the $26 billion annual world market share, principally from three companies headquartered within minutes of the Grace College campus—Zimmer, DePuy, and Biomet.  The Orthopaedic Scholar Institute connects Grace College students with that orthopaedic industry, simultaneously meeting employment needs of the orthopaedic companies and of the students.

Students are selected for OSI through an application and interview process during their sophomore year at Grace College.  Students may be recommended by a professor or their application process may be self-initiated. Completed applications should be taken to the office of the Grace College Business Department in the lower level of the Orthopaedic Capital Center.   Students will then be contacted by the OSI Facilitator and interviews will be scheduled for the Spring semester of their sophomore year.  From those interviews, students are selected for the OSI cohort beginning the following Fall semester.

The OSI training sessions may vary slightly from year to year, but the sessions are generally scheduled every other Saturday from approximately 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  Additionally, OSI scholars receive opportunities for involvement in several special events.  See the link below for the current OSI schedule.
