History and Social Studies Majors and Programs

History Major

The history major requires 45 hours of history coursesin addition to the liberal arts core and electives(minimum of 124 hours for the B.S. degree). Students may take a wide range of American, Western, and World history courses as well as public history, historiography and senior seminar (guided research project). Also available are internships in local and state museums and archives.

Social Studies Secondary Education Major

The Social Studies Secondary Education Major requires 54 major hours and 40 professional hours in addition to the liberal arts core and electives (minimum of 133 hours for the B.S.). This major prepares students to teach history as well as two of the following in public and private institutions throughout the United States:  psychology, economics, and sociology.

Pre-Law Program

The Pre-Law program is designed to prepare students for ministry in a profession that is in need of Christian lawyers who will be ready to serve the hurting, alienated, and abused in the name of Christ. Students may choose from a number of majors to complement a pre-law minor. This minor is designed to encourage students to take a broad range of rigorous liberal arts courses (27 hours) that will help prepare them for the LSAT and for law school. Students will not only be assigned an advisor for their major, but will also have a pre-law advisor through the History and Social Studies Department. An additional strength of the program exists in the internship opportunities that will expose students to varied aspects of the legal system.
